Nestled amidst the ancient Aravallis at a distance of about 10 km from the city is the prehistoric Hindu pilgrimage site of Galtaji Temple. Built in the 15th Century, the architecture of the temple complex is marked by beautifully painted walls, detailed carvings, rounded roofs, and massive pillars. Similar to most other landmarks of Jaipur, Galtaji Temple is also made from exquisite pink sandstones which give it the unique appearance of a majestic palace. Its interior houses various shrines, holy kunds (water tanks), pavilions, and natural springs. Amongst the seven holy kunds present here, the Galta Kund is the most sacred of all as it never runs dry! Named after Saint Galtav who spent his life meditating here, the Galtaji Temple is believed to have been visited by Tulsidas Ji who supposedly wrote a section of the Ramcharitamanas here! During Makar Sankranti, various devotees across the nation come to the temple to take a holy dip in the kunds. The spiritual atmosphere of the temple coupled with its scenic views offers devotees and tourists a serene retreat.
