Nahargarh Fort

Nahargarh Fort, perched atop the Aravalli Hills and overlooking Jaipur, is renowned for its impressive architecture and panoramic views of the city below. Built-in 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, it was originally named Sudarshangarh Fort but was later renamed Nahargarh, which translates to “abode of tigers”. The fort served as a defense stronghold for the city and played a significant role in Jaipur’s defense strategies. The interior complex includes several palaces, temples, gardens, and other structures, each showcasing the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Rajasthan. Amongst the various attractions is the Madhavendra Bhawan which was built by Sawai Madho Singh for his queens and features exquisite frescoes and meticulously crafted chambers. The fort also houses the Nahargarh Biological Park which is home to a rich variety of flora and fauna native to the region. At the Padao Open Air Restaurant within the complex, visitors can savor delicious food while taking in the breathtaking views of Jaipur city. Additionally, the fort is often used as a venue for cultural events, festivals, and film shoots, adding to its allure and charm!
