Located atop a hill in the town of Amer about 11 km away from Jaipur, the historic Amer or Amber Fort was built during the 16th Century by Raja Man Singh I - one of the most trusted generals of Mughal Emperor Akbar. Overlooking the Maota Lake, the brilliant structure of the fort combines both Rajput and Mughal architectural styles, reflecting a harmonious cultural synthesis. Constructed primarily from red sandstone and marble, the fort features intricate carvings, delicate mirror work, and exquisite frescoes that adorn its walls and ceilings. The interior of the fort complex houses the grand halls of Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience) and Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), the majestic Ganesh Pol gateway, and the intricately designed Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace). Additionally, there are lush green courtyards sprawling the entirety of the fort grounds. This designated UNESCO World Heritage Site served as the main residence of the Rajput rulers. Grand celebrations and ceremonies were held here during those times. Besides exploring the mesmerizing architectural features and scenic views of this palace, visitors can also learn more about its history through the sound and light show held during the evening.
